UP Bijli Sakhi Yojana 

Bijli Sakhi Yojana was launched two years back by the Uttar Pradesh government for women empowerment and now its progress report has been released. More than 2 years after the launch of UP Bijli Sakhi Yojana, till now a total of 5,395 women have witnessed electricity bill collection of Rs 625 million in rural areas. In this article we will tell you about the statistics of electricity bill collection by women volunteers across the state.

UP Bijli Sakhi Yojana was started by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as a special employment scheme for women. In this scheme, the state government provided employment to women in rural areas for electricity bill collection. The main objective was to benefit the common man as people would not need to go to the concerned government office for depositing their electricity bill as “Sakhi” would collect the electricity bill from their home.

Launched in May 2020, the initiative was launched as part of a larger scheme called Uttar Pradesh Banking Correspondent Sakhi Yojana. Under the UP Bijli Sakhi Yojana (a part of the UP BC Sakhi Yojana), women volunteers were trained and appointed to do door to door meter reading and bill collection exercises.

Under the direction of CM Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has signed an agreement with National Rural Livelihood Mission in all districts of the state to allow Self Help Groups (SHGs) to collect bill payments from citizens. had done. At present 73 cluster level associations have been registered on UPPCL portal https://www.upenergy.in/ as an agency for electricity bill collection in 75 districts of the state. A total of 15,310 women self-help group members have been selected for this, out of which 5395 active members have done bill collection work worth Rs 625 million.

Electricity bill collection work by women in Uttar Pradesh has so far paid a total commission of Rs 9,074,000 to the members of women self-help groups. On an average, bill collections are earning a monthly income of Rs 3000-5000 and above per woman,” the report mentioned.
