Tamil Nadu Marriage Assistance Schemes, Tamil Nadu Government Marriage Assistance Schemes are being implemented by the State Government. 7 marriage assistance schemes are implemented to help poor parents, orphan girls, widows for remarriage, widows' daughter's marriage and daughters of inter-caste married couples. These TN Government Marriage Assistance Schemes are basically designed to ensure that no parent incurs debt due to their daughter's marriage.

In most communities, it is a customary cultural requirement for a girl to wear a “thirumangalam” made of gold during marriage. Parents celebrate the wedding ceremony according to their customs and cultural background. However, parents from economically weaker sections are not able to cope with the burden of expenses for their daughters' marriage.

To help such parents and encourage them to educate their daughters till the age of maturity, Tamil Nadu Government Marriage Assistance Schemes were launched by the TN State Government. Movalur Ramteertham Ammaiyar Ninaivu Marriage Aid Scheme
Objectives of the Scheme:

Helping poor parents to get their daughters married and to promote the educational status of poor girls.

Assistance Provided:

Scheme-I: A financial assistance of Rs 25,000 and an 8 gram gold coin (22 carat) is provided for making Thirumangalam.

Scheme-II: 50,000 financial assistance and from 23.05.2016 onwards, an 8 gram gold coin (22 carat) is provided to build Thirumangalam.

Eligibility Criteria:

Scheme-I: 

The bride should study 10 thStd (pass or fail).
If she is studying through private or distance education then the bride should pass 10th.
In the case of Scheduled Tribe, the bride should study up to VSDT.

Scheme-II:

Degree holders from regular colleges, Distance Education / Govt recognized Open University are eligible.
Diploma holders should possess diploma certificate from institutes recognized by Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu.

General Criteria:

Annual income is not more than Rs 72,000/- for the family
Only one girl of the family is eligible.
Age should be 18 years at the time of marriage. There is no upper age limit.
Certificates to be enclosed with the application:
Copy of school transfer certificate
Copy of X std mark sheet for scheme- I
Copy of degree/diploma certificate to claim assistance under Scheme-II

Income certificate
wedding ceremony (within 40 days from the date of wedding date. Only in exceptional circumstances applications can be accepted one day before the wedding).
