Tamil Nadu Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit Scheme

Tamil Nadu Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit Scheme, Tamil Nadu Government has started distribution of Amma Maternity Nutrition Kits for pregnant women under Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme. The state of Tamil Nadu is leading the country in the health sector and sophisticated medical services, manpower and infrastructure make the states exemplary models.

Tamil Nadu Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit Scheme

The state government has launched Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit in which pregnant women will be given a kit worth Rs 4,000. The scheme was launched at Egmore Government Maternity Hospital and the government has taken into account the need to augment the facilities in government hospitals across the state. All those women who have given birth to children before January 1 are not eligible under the revised scheme.

The assistance under Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme has already been increased to Rs.18,000. Under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme, an Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit worth Rs.4,000 (approx.) will also be provided. Around 12 nutrients, including dry fruits like dates, which are essential for pregnancy health, will be included in the kit.

Distribution of Amma Maternity Nutrition Kits in Tamil Nadu

These Amma Maternity Nutrition Kits are distributed once in the 12th week and a second time between the 16th and 20th week of pregnancy. Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit Scheme which was announced during the financial year 2018-19 aims to provide iron tonic and nutritional supplements to pregnant women. This kit is given under Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme under which pregnant women will get cash assistance.

Out of the total benefit of Rs 18,000 in TN Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme, the government will provide assistance of Rs 14,000 along with Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit of Rs 4,000. Around 21 lakh mothers have already been benefitted under the Amma Baby Kit launched by late CM J Jayalalithaa (Amma) in September 2015.

About 8 lakh pregnant women are going to benefit every year from the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme in Tamil Nadu. For pregnant women, this scheme will significantly reduce maternal and child mortality.

eligibility condition

The expectant mother should have completed 19 years of age

Eligible mother will get all 5 installments only for two deliveries

HOB and migrant mothers will get the first and fifth installments on certain conditions

Procedure for availing benefits/services

The expectant mother should register her pregnancy with VHN/UHN before 12 weeks or she should register her pregnancy before 12 weeks.
